Crop Update

Posted on June 16, 2014 · Posted in News

Just a quick observation for Saskatchewan conditions. Most of the province received rains this last few days, a boon for some and a curse for others. Around Leader and to the west they received some much needed rain as crops were going backwards, but in other areas such as south of Watrous, excessive amounts are flooding low spots and for producers not finished seeding, mostly east of Yorkton, and south to around Redvers, and a few in the Craik/Davidson areas, this could be the last nail in the coffin for their chance to finish seeding. With cooler temps and more rain forecast later this week, this could cause some problems for the lentils in the low spots as they do not withstand more than a day or two of flooding before they die, and this will surely bring on some root rot issues in the peas.
